Meet The Doctor

Dr. Amechi-Obigwe

Dr. Amechi-Obigwe was raised in a rural area of Nigeria and understands the struggle rural residents of ANY country faces when they are in need of health care services. She is drawn to rural communities because of the friendly people, and her passion to help bring the opportunity for compassionate, cost-effective, medically-sound, yet patient-centered health care to those rural residents

She graduated from the University of Nigeria Enugu and practiced general medicine prior to emigrating to Dallas, Texas, to join her family. After a three-year family practice residency with the Southside Hospital in Bayshore, New York, she moved to a group primary care practice in Minnesota.

Dr Amechi-Obigwe is board-certified in family medicine and practiced full spectrum for over five years with the Famous Mayo health systems in Saint James, where she received recognitions in patient satisfaction and Diabetes Mellitus care. As an active member of the Minnesota Association of Family Physicians, she worked as a part of a committee to organize the Annual Winter Conferences for three years and enjoyed precepting Family Medicine Residents at the Mankato Family Medicine Residency.

Dr. Amechi-Obigwe made Vernon Texas her home when she started the Vernon Clinic in 2012. During this time the Vernon Clinic has received the highest level of care with the Bridges to Excellence in Diabetes Care and the Texas Physician Practice Award in Quality Improvement. n September 2017, Vernon Clinic moved its location to the Historic Hillcrest Clinic location.


Dr. Amechi-Obigwe is active with the Texas Academy of Family Physicians and continues to be passionate about rural health care.
