Lourdes Cardenas is a Vernon native and attended all Vernon schools from kindergarten to Vernon College. Lourdes understands the importance of quality, affordable healthcare in this community. Lourdes’s family was raised in a small rural town in Mexico without access to medical care or transportation. Lourdes recalls many times she was ill, and her parents used homeopathic remedies to alleviate symptoms instead of taking her to local providers. Lourdes grew up in an economically disadvantaged home with parents who had less than 2 years of education. Lourdes’s family instilled strong work ethic, morals, and values to overcome obstacles in furthering her education, but quitting was not an option. She worked two jobs and raised four children with the help of her husband David while furthering her education. Lourdes’s own experience with financial and healthcare barriers laid the foundation in helping others take charge of their own health with resources she has made available to her patients.
